The Organic Certification process was started in the year 2015-16 sponsored by Government of India sponsored programme of Mission Organic Value Chain Development Programm for North East Region (MOVCD-NER). The Department of Agriculture with the help of service provider, has successfully completed organic conversion for kiwi and large cardamom in Lower Subansiri District for 500 hectare kiwi & large cardamom, certification (C3) through Sikkim State Organic Certification Agency ( SSOCA) in 2020.
Minister (Agriculture, Horticulture, AHV, DD and Fisheries) Er. Tage Taki exhorted the department officials and the Subansiri Kiwi & Large Cardamom Farmer Producer Company Ltd for successfully obtaining Organic Certification in three years period and for being the first district to achieve the target in the state.
Taki was speaking at a function where he handed over packaging and handling materials to the members of Subansiri Organic Kiwi & Large Cardamom Farmers Producer Company Ltd under MOVCD-NER.
Taki further urged upon the farmers of the state as a whole to shift their focus on sustainable farming and to take up short duration, high yielding, high income activities such as piggery, poultry, fisheries, horticulture crops suitable to the area.
"The favourable agro-climatic conditions, good annual rainfall, fertile soil, food habit of local people are the strengths of the state; so capitalizing on these potentials will boost economy of the farmers," he said.
While lauding Prime Minister Narendra Modi's “Aatma Nirbhar Abhiyan” for self-reliance and self-sustenance, he called upon the youths to come up and venture into farming and livestock rearing as a profession instead of running after white collar jobs. “Government jobs will be completely saturated one day but production from the soil will never end,” he said while narrating about his ‘free ranging poultry scheme’ that he is planning in his bamboo garden.
Taki further assured the people that the district will soon have good quality Trans Arunachal Highway and also good quality roads connecting every village of Ziro thus facilitating the flow of buyers for organic produce like large cardamom and kiwi.
"Arunachal Pradesh Agriculture and Livestock marketing Board (APALMB) is already working on pro-farmers plan and policy to take the state Agri & Allied sector to the next level, the result of which will soon be visible," he said.
