ITANAGAR, Sep 15: Phawang Lowang, the BJP candidate who contested against late Tirong Aboh in the recent assembly election from Khonsa -West Constituency today said that the assassination of the former Minister and NPP MLA may have been due to his personal issue and not related to politics.
Addressing reporters at press club today, Lowang said ‘allegation against me for issuing a letter in the name of ‘Naga Army (Ollo)’ directing the villagers to vote for me in the upcoming bye-election is baseless and a political vendetta to tarnish my image. ‘I strongly condemned the assassination of Tirong Aboh along with 10 others and I have nothing to do with the assassination. The incident is totally a personal issue of late Aboh,' clarified Lowang while appealing to the wife of late Aboh to refrain from making any irrational claims in media.
Lowang also added that he has personally met the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh and submitted a memorandum asking him to unearth the truth by initiating free and fair investigation from any agency.
‘Why should I issue letter under the head of Naga Army (Ollo) when I have enough supporters in my constituency. Moreover, there are no such underground elements with such a name,’ asserted Lowang.
When asked why is he partaking in the upcoming bye-election after the barbaric incident of May 21 last, Lowang said that it is due to the willingness of his supporters to participate in the upcoming bye-election. He also clarified that if his party, the BJP denies him ticket then also he will go with the voice of his supporters whether to participate in the election or not.
Further, responding to query on involvement of Under Ground elements in political activities of Tirap, Changlang and Longding, Lowang said 'no one can eradicate or stop them unless the people of the area come to a decision to act tough against them. I will also act according to the will of public if I get a chance to represent them’.
