Ziro, Oct 29: The lottery draw to determine seats reserved for women under the 33 per cent reservation policy for the upcoming Panchayat election was conducted at the District Secretariat Building, Ziro on Tuesday.
The Draw Board was chaired by District Panchayat Development Officer (DPDO), Hage Tarung, with Assistant Commissioner Radhe Tatung and Circle Officer Mide Bage serving as Board Members.
The event was attended by representatives of various political parties, incumbent GPMs, GPCs, ZPMs and ZPC Pura Dollo. Deputy Commissioner Oli Perme also graced the occasion and appreciated the Board members for the smooth, transparent and peaceful conduct of the draw.
The entire process was live telecast by media houses including Aamaba and AP Direct India, ensuring transparency and wider public awareness.
As per the outcome of the draw, out of 516 Gram Panchayat Member (GPM) seats, 171 have been reserved for women; out of 161 Gram Panchayat Chairperson (GPC) seats, 53 have been reserved for women. Similarly, out of 14 Zilla Parishad Constituencies (ZPCs) in Lower Subansiri district, five constituencies have been reserved for women, namely:
01-Diibo, 08-Kalung, 10-Hari (South), 13-Niitii and 14-Gano.
The event marked another step forward in strengthening women’s participation and representation in grassroots governance in the district.
