TEZU, Aug 21: At least 13 Gaon Buras from various panchayats in Lohit district have submitted presentations to the Deputy Commissioner Lohit and the MLA Tezu-Sunpura AC appealing for an early release of their pending honorarium.
The GBs called on the DC on Friday and submitted their representation and apprised him about the hardships they are facing due to the inordinate delay in release of their meagre honorarium. GB Khoraba Panchayat, Kamley Marap informed that since October 2019 they have not received their honorarium. “We have extended support to the administration in all-possible ways in every occasion and even during the Covid lockdowns,” he stated, lamenting that despite such support, their small amounts are being withheld which is depressing during the current pandemic. “As per information, administration has held up our honorarium as because a few GBs are not cooperating in the fight against the district’s opium menace,” he informed, adding however that most of them are well aware of the current opium situation and are discouraging such acts in all platforms.
Earlier, in a separate representation to the local MLA Karikho Kri, the GBs sought his intervention for an early release of their pending honorarium. The DC couldn’t be contacted for official comments due to his busy schedule.
However, during the meeting he assured the GBs to release their backlog honorarium and urged them to discourage opium culture in the district’s rural areas.
