PANGIN, Jul 25:An awareness programme on fire accidents and other natural disasters organised by the Department of Disaster Management, Siang district was today kickstarted at Kerang I village. The programme was attended among others by the Deputy Commissioner Rahul Singh, EAC Kaying N. Nonnang, DDMO in-charge Pebika Lego, host of PRI members, GBs and HGBs from Kerang and the other adjoining villages, school students and general public.

The DC in his address stated that the main objective of the programme was to generate awareness about various disasters natural and man-made with special focus on fire accidents. Recalling the May 11last, Kerang inferno that ravaged the village, he exhorted all participants to make the best of this programme, to learn and imbibe the learning in their day to day lives and to spread further awareness among others. He urged them to render all cooperation and assistance to the district administration in its efforts towards averting disasters.

Informative videos on natural disasters like earthquakes and landslides with preventive and precautionary measures to be undertaken were also shown during the programme. A talk on medical aid during emergency situations was also given by the medical department.
