ITANAGAR, Dec 5: A scrutiny of nominations filed by the BJP candidates for Zilla Parishad Member, Gram Panchayat Member and Corporator/Councillor seats in the upcoming Panchayat and Municipal elections in the state has revealed that as many as 75 ZPMs, 2 Corporators and more than 1000 Gram Panchayat Members have won unopposed as there were no nominations from opposition candidates to contest the said seats.
The district-wise detail of the 75 ZPM seats won uncontested are- Tawang(3), West Kameng(5), East Kameng(5), Papum Pare(1), Lower Subansiri (6), Kra Daadi (7), Kurung Kumey (6), Upper Subansiri (11), Kamle (6), West Siang (3), Lepa Rada (1), Upper Siang(5), Dibang Valley(4), Lower Dibang Valley(3), Anjaw(1), Namsai (1), Changlang(5), Tirap(1) and Longding(1). The two Corporator seats won unopposed by the BJP are in the Itanagar Municipal Corporation.
Panchayat and municipal elections will be held simultaneously in Arunachal Pradesh on December 22 after a delay of over two years.
The last date for withdrawal of the nominations is December 7. The votes will be counted on December 26 and the entire process will be completed by December 31. Separate COVID-19 guidelines have been issued for election officials, candidates and political parties. The commission will deploy 27 observers to oversee the election process in 25 districts, including the Itanagar Municipal Corporation and the Pasighat Municipality.
Arunachal Pradesh has 25 zilla parishads with 241 constituencies, and 2,215 gram panchayats with 8,436 seats.
The two civic bodies in the state -- Itanagar Municipal Corporation and Pasighat Municipality -- have 20 and eight wards respectively.
A total of 7,39,284 voters will be eligible to exercise their franchise in 2,175 polling booths for both the elections, the official added.
