Itanagar, Nov 29: The three-day long Arunachal Literature Festival or Litfest organized by the Department of IPR in collaboration with Arunachal Pradesh Literary Society concluded today with great fanfare along with a promise to make it a people’s movement in coming days.
Attending the concluding ceremony as Chief Guest,Assembly Speaker P.D. Sona said that it is important to inculcate reading habit among younger generation coupled with outreach programmes focusing on literary activities to connect them. He expressed gratitude to the writers from India and abroad who attended the fest for inspiring the state’s young minds and disclosed that the State Assembly is opening up an E-Library which will be made accessible to students without fees along with a museum to showcase the rich artifacts and traditions of Arunachal. Prizes for Open Air Painting competition for school children and online essay competition for school and college students were also given away by the Speaker. 
Special Guest Dhruba Hazarika who has been associated with the festival expressed hope that literature will flourish in state in the years to come. Jamuna Bini Tadar and IPR Director Obang Tayeng spoke on the objective behind the festival and writers and authors were felicitated on behalf of Chief Minister in State Guest House. Noted novelist Jerry Pinto spoke on the topic “Is fiction a Shadow of Reality? ” and “Literature and Media” and had a detailed conversation with Higio Zarngam on his award winning books like EM, The Big Hoom, The White Crows etc. He also donated some books for Bamboosa Library Tezu.   In the discussion on “Oral Literature Traditions in India” Vasant Nirgune spoke about Arunachal’s vast number of languages and dialects and was all praise for the works of Jamuna Bini Tadar in Hindi. Chairing the session on “Short Story Reading” Rakesh Bihari said that books on different languages have to be assimilated to give access to valuable readings and exchange of ideas. Leila Chudori spoke on the topic “Writing in one’s Mother Tongue” and Kamal Kumar Tanti spoke on “Poetry Reading”. The prize winning poems by the budding poets of the state were also presented on the occasion.
All authors from India and abroad shared their wonderful moments and expressed their gratitude to Secretary IPRHimanshu Gupta and President APLS Y.D. Thongchi and  their team for making the event successful. DIPRO
