ITANAGAR, Oct 20: COVID-19 has made us realise that we haven’t given due importance to our health sector in the past, said Minister Health & Family Welfare, WCD and SJETA, Alo Libang.
The Minister who is on an official visit to Western Arunachal to take stock of health sector and Women and Child Development on the ground, today visited the District Hospital, Tawang.
The Minister along with Deputy Commissioner Tawang, Sang Phuntsok, Medical Superintendent and other health officials inspected the under construction new 101- bed IPD building, ICU ward at Khando Drowa Sangmo District Hospital. During the visit Libang also distributed fruits and other nutrients to indoor patients.
Asserting that the pandemic has made us realise the importance of the health sector, Libang said that most of the hospitals in the state now have ventilators, ICU and other required infrastructure.
"We were unaware of the importance of PPE, mask and other medical equipment but this pandemic has taught us the importance of the health sector."
Appreciating the state's health warriors for fighting the pandemic despite limited resources, the minister added "Now the state government has made it a top priority to improve the health sector; so we all should extend support to fight against coronavirus and other ailments."
In response to a representation submitted by the Medical Superintendent-KDSDH, Dr N Namshum, Libang admitted to manpower constraints in almost all the districts, however, said the state government is working to recruit more doctors and other staffers as per requirement.
“We have asked assistance from TRIHMS and neighbouring state for recruitment of specialist doctors," added Libang. The Minister also assured to take up in the next cabinet meeting all the requirements-- material & equipment to functionalize the new IPD building at the earliest.
Later, the health minister also visited the Monpalpung Jangchub Choekhorling Monastry to take the stock of the ICDS programme being run by the monastery and One Stop Centre –Tawang under the Women & Child Development department.
"I have received a good report about the ICDS programme being run by the monastery," said Libang adding "the fund and schemes has been utilised judiciously by the institution which is commendable."
CDPO- Tawang, D Pema( In-charge Jang) informed that the monastry is also a Child Care Institution registered under Juvenile Justice Act. The institution has a capacity of fifty but currently houses 24 students.
The institution only gives admission to single parent children under Child in Need of Care & Protection (CNCP). Child Welfare Committee (CWC) will verify and certify whether the ward is CNPC prior to admission. The progress and other requirements of the institution is monitored on weekly, monthly, quarterly and half-yearly basis.
Earlier, Deputy Director –ICDS, West Kameng also administrative in charge –ICDS of Tawang, Liyan Moyee informed that most of the programmes are running smoothly in the both districts. ‘There are 307 Anganwadi centres in West Kameng and all the centres are functional, however, few need refurbishing," she added.
