ITANAGAR, Sep 16:Minister (H&FW), Alo Libang launched the multi media campaign (MMC) on HIV amidst huge gathering of around 2000 youth from the border town of Yingkiong on September 14 last.

Speaking on the occasion, he asked the youth to take all preventive measure to stay away from HIV/AIDS.

Advising the youth to take care of their health stating ‘Health is Wealth’, he also stressed that healthy youth are the future of the state. He also stressed that HIV/AIDS can be prevented only through proper knowledge about the disease.

Director of Health Services, Dr Moromor Lego, while attending the inaugural programme asked the youth of the state to play a pivotal role in creating awareness on HIV. He also appreciated Arunachal Pradesh State AIDS Control Society (APSACS) for their role in creating awareness on HIV through the multimedia campaign.

Project Director of APSACS, Dr Riken Rina while briefing the aims and objective of MMC said that the National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO) is undertaking a multi - media campaign in the Northeastern region of the country for youth between the age group of 15-29 years.

DMO, Upper Siang, Dr Dubom Bagra and Dy Director (IEC) APSACS, Tashor Pali also spoke on the occasion.

Sacred Secrecy, renowned Metal band of the state enthralled the young audience during the MMC show while educating youth about HIV/AIDS and its preventive aspects. Siang Spring, a local band from Upper Siang also entertained the youth through its performance on the occasion.

The multi-media campaign aims to capitalise on the popularity of local entertainment avenues among youth like music concerts and sports.

The MMC aims at enhancing risk perception and promote safe behaviour by addressing issues around stigma and discrimination for people infected and affected with HIV and AIDS. Through this campaign APSACS motivates different population groups to seek services like ICTC, PPTCT, ART, STI and Care & Support services. MMC also highlights the importance of blood safety and increase awareness on the availabilityof ART. It also stressed on normalization of condoms.
