ITANAGAR, Sep 1: Prizes to the winners of the month-long online video contest conducted by the Arunachal Pradesh State AIDS Control Society (APSACS) were handed over by the Minister H&FW, Alo Libang here on Tuesday in a simple yet impressive ceremony.
Congratulating the winners, Libang asked them to be more vigilant to stay safe from various diseases and exhorted to spread awareness on HIV. “HIV awareness activities should not be done just for prizes and awards, but as a part of social service in daily life also,” the Minister said. Stating that youths are the future of the state and nation, Libang appreciated the APSACS for their noble initiative of creating HIV awareness using digital media.
Director of Health Services, Dr. M. Lego asked the youths to play an important role in creating awareness on HIV. “As there is no definite cure to the disease or vaccine, knowledge about the virus and its transmission is key to prevent its spread,” he said while appealing all not to stigmatise the HIV infected persons.
Project Director, APSACS Dr. Riken Rina while appreciating the youths for participating in large numbers in the month-long campaign said the Covid-19 pandemic has come as a blessing in disguise as it allowed the APSACS to go online with its HIV campaign. “The state has many budding talents and the online video contest has provided an opportunity to tap them,” the Project Director observed. The month-long Digital Campaign on HIV was organised from August 1-31 to mark the International Youth Day which falls on August 12 every year. A Facebook video contest with the topic ‘Role of Youth in HIV Awareness’ was organised as a part of the campaign wherein 19 contestants took part. Team Ekta emerged as the winner, followed by Gami Bogo as second and Damsite Friends the third.
The 1st prize winners received Rs. 15000, 2nd prize winners Rs. 10000 and the 3rd Rs. 5000. Mementos and certificates were given to all the winners.
