In order to revitalize the urban economy by providing soft loans to the street vendors under Prime Minister Street Vendors Atmanirbhar (PM-SVA) Nidhi, a three-day loan mela was launched at Pasighat in the Pasighat Municipal Council office campus. It was formally launched today by the State Mission Director, Deendayal Antodaya Yojna (National Urban Livelihood Mission) Nixon Lego in presence of Assistant Town Planner Tani Taloh and local beneficiaries/applicants.
Speaking on the occasion, Mission Director Lego informed that PM-SVA Nidhi is a scheme for special micro-credit facility to the street vendors for providing affordable working capital loan to resume their livelihoods, who were jobless due to Covid-19 lockdown. The motive was to provide financial supports to the street vendors and others, working in the unorganized sectors so that they could get their livelihood back. Eligible street vendors would be provided Rs. 10,000/- (Ten thousand) repayable in monthly installments in the tenure of one year. The union government would also providing an interest subsidy of 7% on regular payment which would be directly transferred to the bank accounts (DBT) of the borrowers, informed Lego adding that street vendors willing to avail the loan should compulsorily carry their mobile number linked Aadhaar card and bank passbook. In order to ensure fast implementation of the scheme with transparency and accountability, a digital platform with web portal/end-to-end solutions would be provided that would also further link in future automatically with all pro-poor schemes and programmes.
While throwing light on achievements, Director Lego informed that the programme was being monitored by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Prime Minister’s Office and the Prime Minister personally through PRAGAT. In Arunachal Pradesh more than 5,000 street vendors were identified, out of which 1,500 have availed the scheme so far. Under the current urban poverty alleviation programmes, GoI had selected 125 cities including Itanagar in the first phase. The second phase launched at Pasighat today would add 34 more urban cities by covering almost the entire urban population in the state, empowering enhancement of livelihood opportunities.
Earlier 13 and today 20 more applicants were uploaded at Pasighat. Reportedly, 40 applicants were linked with Aadhaar Monday while 200 more applications are expected during the three-day mela here at Pasighat, informed official sources. DIPR
