Tawang, Dec 14: Arunachal Pradesh State Legal Services Authority (APSLSA) in collaboration with District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Tawang organized a two-day Legal Literacy-cum-Training Programme for Gaon Burahs(GBs )and Gaon Buris(GBs) here at Zomkhang Hall on December 12 & 13 last.
Titled ‘Synergy Between Customary Practices and Formal Laws’, the programme was participated by 70 GBs. DC Tawang Sang Phuntsok was the Chief Guest and SP Bomge Kamduk was the Guest of Honour.
The training covered different topics such as Schedule Tribes & Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006, RTI Act, Right to Education Act, Customary Laws for Women of AP, access to justice, Village Council System of Monpa (Mang), Village Authority under Assam Frontier (Administration of Justice) Regulation, 1945 and role of GBs in assisting police and District Administration.
Member Secretary, APSLSA Budi Habung spoke about the importance of such training for the state’s GBs as they have lots of community responsibilities and elaborated on how they have been executing their roles in resolving conflicts and disputes in the communities since long. He encouraged them to get familiar with the formal laws and find synergy with their customary practices to ensure justice for all and for promoting peace in society.
DC while applauding the role of GBs encouraged them to learn more about formal laws and the schemes & rights available.
SP thanked the GBs for their help and support in policing activities.
Habung spoke about APSLSA activities such as Free Legal Services at Legal Aid Clinics, Lok Adalat and Arunachal Pradesh Victim Compensation Scheme 2011.
