Namsai, Oct 31: The district of Namsai which is trying to catch up with the rest of the state in terms of overall development in general and administrative infrastructure in particular has faced an unexpected jolt with the filing of a legal case that has alleged that Block B of the Mini Secretariat currently under construction on the same premises adjacent to Block A has violated the Forest Act.
“We have an acute shortage of office buildings to deliver routine public services. The district has accelerated its pace of development and come up with several buildings to deliver better services. Among these the Mini Secretariat Block B building which is being constructed to accommodate various departments and currently in the final stage of completion is a key one. Unfortunately a court case has been filed citing violation of the Forest Act by an individual resulting in complete halt of the ongoing works,” DC Namsai RK Sharma informed.
Being a promising district with a huge population and 5 Administrative Circles, need of office buildings to deliver better governance is essential, DC said, adding that shortage of manpower is also an issue. “We have two EACs and one CO instead of three EACs and three COs at the headquarters,” he revealed.
When enquired about the current status of the building, executing department of the PWD rued over the legal hurdle, informing that all construction works have been suspended since March this year due to a halt in payment of running bills to the contractor. Until the case is settled, the remaining works cannot be carried out resulting in delay of handing it over to the District Administration, sources in the department divulged.
It needs mentioning that the Namsai subdivision of Lohit district emerged as the 18th district of the state as Namsai on November 25, 2014 and as per 2011 Census, its population stood at 95,950.
