ITANAGAR, Jun 22: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) on Tuesday lodged an FIR against the Chief Engineer of Border Roads Organisation (BRO), Kimin at the Itanagar Police Station.
Along with the FIR, the union served a 10-day ultimatum demanding unconditional apology from the Chief Engineer BRO for referencing Kimin town as part of Assam during the inauguration programme of the 20-km double lane of Kimin-Potin road by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on June 17 last.
Speaking to the media, President AAPSU, Hawa Bagang said that if it fails to apologise, AAPSU will demonstrate democratic movement in all the BRO camps established in Arunachal.
“BRO is acting as an agent of the Chinese and not here for the development of the state," he added and urged for immediate inquiry by the vigilance department of the state against the BRO.
There are many instances where the BRO has delayed development projects intentionally like the Bhalukpong-Bomdila road including the Kimin to Potin road which is a mere 20km but has taken more than 10 years, Bagang said.
Meanwhile, AAPSU General Secretary Tobom Dai, who visited the place of occurrence recently said, “It is a kind of ‘territorial sabotage’ and breaching the sovereignty of the State in a federal set up by the BRO with the intention to create a boundary dispute between the two states which is an on-going issue and case pending in the Supreme Court."
BRO has to tender an unconditional apology within 10 days, failing which the union will take its own course of democratic movement, Dai added.
The All Arunachal Pradesh Abotani Students' Union (AAPATSU) has also vehemently condemned the act of Border Roads Organization (BRO) for depicting Kimin in Arunachal Pradesh, as a part Assam.
Further , AAPATSU sought clarification from Union MoS Kiren Rijiju as to why did he allow such a gross error to take place when he was endorsed by the Chief Minister Pema Khandu , to speak to Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
