KIMIN, Jun 23: Nyishi Elite Society (NES), the apex body of the Nyishi community has demanded a probe of the Kimin episode by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
The NIA investigation demand was decided in a joint meeting participated by the NES, All Nyishi Students’ Union (ANSU) and All Nyishi Youth Association (ANYA) today in Kimin wherein the local representatives, administration and police also took part. On June 17 last, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh visited Kimin and inaugurated the 20 km long Kimin-Potin road. However, the nodal agency Border Roads Organisation (BRO) renamed Kimin as Bilgarh of Assam and whitewashed all the signage where Kimin as well as Arunachal Pradesh were written on it.
“We want the truth to be unearthed for identifying the official(s) responsible for such actions which have hurt the sentiments of the local people. NES will write to the Prime Minister for an NIA investigation to unearth the truth, whether the blunder was a conspiracy from Assam, an international policy issue or negligence by the state government,” President NES Bengia Tolum stated while speaking to the media.
“Kimin is a part of Arunachal since time immemorial and this episode may create some advantage for Assam in the land dispute case pending in Supreme Court,” Tolum said, recalling that in 1972 the then Prime Minister of the country Indira Gandhi visited Ziro without any fear of anyone. “Now a Defence Minister who visited the state to inaugurate an incomplete project had to conceal the identity of the land due to China’s fear. We believe it must be an international conspiracy to keep Arunachal out of India,” the NES President lamented. “We assert ourselves as an integral part of India, but why mainland India is repeatedly denying the fact. If the Defence Minister himself cannot accept Arunachal as a part of India, then how will he defend us from other neighbouring countries,” Tolum tossed the question.

The NES President also questioned the logic behind Assam supervising the event when it was conducted well within Arunachal's territory. Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Union MoS Kiren Rijiju are equally answerable to the people as to how Arunachal’s Kimin becomes Assam’s Bilgarh. “Beside an FIR, we will make it an international issue and we feel that BRO has been made a scapegoat here,” President ANSU Nabam Dodum asserted.
Moreover, when the Defence Minister is visiting Arunachal, how come the Chief Minister and Union MoS Rijiju who represent the state at the Centre know nothing, Dodum questioned, while informing that the student body will extend full support to the decisions taken by the NES.
