ITANAGAR, Oct 21: Bye-election to the 56-Khonsa West (ST) AC today passed off in a by and large peaceful manner with poll percentage as high as 89%.
With all political parties unanimously deciding not to field candidates, there were only two Independent candidates in fray, namely Chakat Aboh and Azet Homtok. 12 Coy extra Central Forces were deployed in the entire constituency in addition to the normal security strength for peaceful conduct of election in the 23 polling stations of the constituency. Total number of electorate is 10,186 with female voters numbering 5226 and male 4960.
It can be recalled that election process started with the issue of Gazette Notification on September 23 last by the Election Commission of India and the campaign period was also largely peaceful. Counting of votes is scheduled on October 24 from 0800 hrs.
