KHONSA, Mar 13: MLA 55-Khonsa East Wanglam Sawin today kicked off the weeklong Khelo India Sports competition having the theme ‘Sports for Peace and Development- Correcting People- Realizing Youths’ to be conducted at the indoor stadium of 6th Assam Rifles campus and Nehru Stadium.
Inaugurating the tournament which is sponsored by the Sports Authority of India (SAI), Sawin urged the youths of Tirap and Changlang to take the advantage of getting spotted and shun all addictions and make sports a way of life. Deputy Commissioner, Tirap Taro Mize while stating the significance of the tournament informed that there is a 5% reservation in jobs under sports quota in every department of the state government which should be availed of by the youths. District Sports Officer Noah Mongku informed that specific districts like Tirap, Changlang and Longding have been chosen by the government for the competition to encourage its youth to refrain from all unlawful activities.
District Karate Association Vice President Somgang Lowang, SP Kardak Riba, HoDs, PRI members attended the inaugural ceremony of the tournament which will continue till March 15. DIPRO
