While taking a first hand report on the progress of construction made so far, the Chief Minister made it clear to the officials that the project must be finished within August 2022. Visibly concerned over the slow progress of actual work of the runaway and airport terminal, he reminded the officials regarding the priority of the project. “This project, foundation of which was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is our top-most priority. Please be informed that earlier the completion target was November 2022 which has been changed to August 2022. Work accordingly,” Khandu advised, assuring along with that funds will not be a constraint.
Asking the Chief Project Manager of Dinesh Chandra R Agarwal Infracon Pvt Ltd, the Gujarat-based firm executing the project, Kaushal Patel to expedite construction process, Khandu said that all assistance will be provided by the state government. “You have got five months of the best working season now. Make full use of it by working day and night. You have got all our support and cooperation,” the Chief Minister exhorted, adding that he would monitor the progress by visiting the site personally from time to time. Keeping in view the fact that the site is located along Arunachal-Assam boundary which requires acquirement of land from the Assam side, Khandu informed that he would talk to his Assam counterpart soon in this regard. “As both Arunachal and Assam will benefit from the airport, we will coordinate with the Assam government in its successful completion,” he said.
The Chief Minister also visited the rehabilitation site of the displaced Chakma families and assured them assistance, especially in resolving the drinking water issue which is under progress. As a temporary solution, water is being supplied through borewells. It can be recalled that 156 families had to be shifted from the project site and 30 families from the 4-lane approach road, all of whom have been rehabilitated. Almost all the families have shifted by now except for a few who will join the rest after harvesting of crops.
