PASIGHAT, Dec 24: The month-long Arunachal River Rafting Expedition covering 720 km of all the major seven rivers of the state undertaken by the National Institute of Mountaineering and Adventure Sports (NIMAS), Dirang was flagged off today by Chief Minister Pema Khandu here near Raneghat.
Flagging off the expedition and congratulating Team NIMAS led by its Director Col. Safraz Singh, Khandu said the historic expedition will go a long way in opening new avenues for adventure tourism in particular and the tourism sector in general in the state. 
The expedition has set a target of scripting a new national record by covering a total distance of 720 km on the state’s major seven rivers namely Kameng, Dibang, Nao-Dihing, Lohit, Subansiri, Siyom and Siang. 
Local MLA Kaling Moyong, Commissioner to CM Sonam Chombey, DC East Siang Dr. Kinny Singh, SP Rajiv Ranjan Singh, Commandant 5th IRBn  Esha Pandey also felicitated the team members. 
Col. Singh informed that the team comprising 10 youths from the state and 15 army personnel from NIMAS have set out for the expedition with the primary objective of exploring Arunachal Pradesh and promoting adventure tourism in the state. The highly skilled rafting team will negotiate more than 300 rapids including 27 Grade V, 41 Grade IV and 98 Grade III plus rapids. The expedition will be highly thrilling as there are a large number of stretches in these rivers where rafting will be conducted for the first time. 
Besides the rafting challenge, Team NIMAS is also bracing up to launch its first winter trekking expedition on the famous Bailey’s trail in January 2021 next.
