TAWANG, Apr 9: The skill upgradation training programme on Pottery for the traditional potters of Tawang district organised by the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), North East Zone, Guwahati under Kumhar Sashaktikaran Programme in collaboration with District Administration concluded today here at the District Industries Centre.
Ten traditional potters of the district were trained on using modern electric pottery wheel and Blunger machine during the ten-day course which was imparted free of cost. Assistant Director, KVIC Guwahati SN Asthana said the training was intended to revive the age-old tradition of pottery making by giving skill up-gradation training to the traditional artisans that would help them in increasing their income. Deputy Commissioner, Tawang Sang Phuntsok appealed to the traditional potters of the district to continue with the age-old tradition and directed the Industry, Textile and Handloom Department to collaborate with the KVIC to arrange similar skill upgradation training for traditional woodcraft, Thangka painting, clay craft and idol making. The KVIC has assured to give support in providing skill upgradation training for traditional wood carving and wood craft shortly.
In the valedictory session the potters were handed over free electric pottery wheels and Blunger machines along with training completion certificates by the DC in presence of ADTH Chano Lowang and DDI Tsering Drema. DIPRO
