TAWANG, Mar 31: A 10-day Skill Upgradation Training for the traditional potters of Tawang district commenced today here at the District Industries Centre organised by the Khadi Village Industries Commission (KVIC), NEZ under its Kumhar Sashaktikaran Yojana.
Inaugurating the training programme which will train 10 locals, DC Tawang Sang Phuntsok conveyed his gratitude to the only surviving traditional potter of Tawang, Lham Tsering for preserving and keeping alive the art of pot making which is an ancient tradition of Monpa culture. He also appealed to the unemployed youths to learn the ancient art for getting self-employed. Asserting its commercial viability, the DC cited the Sunday market example which has been started recently by the District Administration where on the inaugural day itself the traditional pots were sold out within no time. He further requested Master Trainer Manjit Baruah from the KVIC to share his knowledge of Assamese traditional pot making with the trainees.
