Itanagar, Jul 26: The 20th Kargil Vijay Diwas commemoration was organised today at Raj Bhavan, Itanagar with great fervour of nationalism and patriotism. The Governor of Arunachal Pradesh Brig. (Dr.) B.D. Mishra (Retd.) along with Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein laid wreath and paid tribute to the martyrs of Kargil War ‘Operation Vijay’.  People from different fields, parents of Kargil War Martyrs, Kargil War participants, Commanding Officer of 20 Madras Col. Vikram Nalawade, Ex Serviceman Wing Cdr Gyati Kago (Retd.), senior officers of the State Government, Jawans from ITBP, and Cadets from NCC laid wreaths and paid respect to the martyrs.

Troops of Indo Tibetan Border Police presented the ‘Guard of Honour’, in memoriam, to the ‘Amar Jawan’, while the bugler played the ‘Last Post and Rouse Reveille’.

Honouring the warrior martyrs and their families, the Governor and Chief Minister felicitated Smt Dinuo and Shri Neiselie, parents of Martyrs Captain Neikezhakuo Kenguruse, Maha Vir Chakra (Posthumous) and his siblings Ms Mhozienuo and Shri Viketoulie on the occasion. The Kargil War Heroes, Subedar Imliakum Ao, Maha Vir Chakra, Col Gurpreet Singh, Sena Medal (Gallantry) and Subedar Harinder Singh, a battle casualty of Kargil War, were also felicitated during the function.

Highlight of the celebration was the inspiring talks by the officers and Junior Commissioned Officers, about their battles in the Kargil War. Subedar Imliakum Ao, Maha Vir Chakra, Col Gurpreet Singh of 13 Jak Rif, Sena Medal (Gallantry) and Subedar Harinder Singh, 2 Raj Rif, a Kargil war casualty shared their Kargil combat experiences.

Speaking on the occasion, the Governor recalled the sacrifices made by the Kargil War Martyrs for the defence of the Nation. He said that recalling the bravery of our war heroes is a proud moment for every Indian. He also said that it was an honour for every attendee of the function, in the packed Darbar Hall of Raj Bhavan, to be in the company of the parents and the siblings of Martyr Captain Neikezhakuo Kenguruse, winner of Mahavir Chakra.

The Governor, while reminding the people of their duty towards martyrs’ families, called upon them not to forget their sacrifices and to provide all help required by the war heroes and the martyrs’ families.

The Governor also remembered the laudable tradition of the Indian Armed Forces of providing proper burial to the fallen enemy soldiers of Pakistan in accordance with their customs.

Immersed with patriotism and nationalism, the students of premier institutes of higher education of Arunachal Pradesh, i.e. Rajiv Gandhi University, Rono Hills, Doimukh, North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology, Nirjuli, National Institute of Technology, Arunachal Pradesh presented patriotic music and song on the occasion. Perfectly befitting the solemn occasion, the Army Pipes and Drums from the Seventh Battalion of the Eight Gorkha Rifles played the patriotic ‘Sare Jahan Se Achha Hindustan’ and ‘Deso Ka Sartaj Bharat’ tunes for the assemblage.

Cabinet Ministers, senior officials, teachers and students from different colleges and schools attended the event.

Arunachal Pradesh BJP observed the day here at its State Office.

The event was organized by Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha under the stewardship of its President, Taring Tiri. Assembly Deputy Speaker Tesam Pongte, State Vice Presidents Dominic Tadar & Kipa Babu, other state office bearers and senior leaders were present on the occasion. Deputy Speaker, while extolling the sacrifices made by the soldiers of the Indian Army and paying   homage also pointed out the significance of Kargi Vijay Divas.  Earlier, the BJYM led by its President Taring Tiri organized a donation camp for the widows and family members of the martyrs of the Kargil War at its office.
