Tezu, Jul 10: In an exemplary display of professionalism and collaborative efforts, a joint team of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) and Lohit Police rescued 8 persons from Jhalukbari village after the overflowing Lohit river inundated several houses in the area.
The rescued persons included three females, four males and a seven-month old baby.
Acting sharply on the message of flood in the said village, DDMO Damchen Nordu, DSP T Jamba and their team of brave-hearted fishermen rushed to the site and saved the marooned persons. “It was a do or die effort from us to save the lives in face of the rampaging Lohit. We rescued them timely and have arranged safer shelters and there is no report of loss of lives,” DDMA sources disclosed. “We have used a rubber boat hired from a private party to rescue people affected by floods,” one of the department’s official added.
Meanwhile, the Lohit DA has issued an order alerting the district’s people to shift from low-lying and periphery areas of rivers and avoid venturing into river sites.
