YUPIA, May 13: At least 58 migrant workers of Jammu & Kashmir stranded at Hollongi have been shifted to the relief camp here on Tuesday evening after media highlighted their woes, but their principal demand which is to return home is yet to be fulfilled.
Besides assisting these stranded workers, security is being provided by the police in the camp and a team of doctors and health staff is also examining their health. “We are thankful  to the government of Arunachal Pradesh for taking utmost care of the stranded people of Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh during this lockdown period,” said Umesh Singh, a migrant worker who along with others came to Hollongi for tower construction work.
While reiterating their willingness to go back to their home state, he disclosed that more than 150 people from J&K and Himachal Pradesh along with their 64 mules are currently stranded at Hollongi due to the lockdown.
He further, informed that the contract period for the construction work had already been completed on March last, but the concerned contractor based at Assam left them abandoned without releasing their pending wages, due to which they are facing acute financial problems.  “We are getting daily phone calls from our family members, but we are helpless and cannot return home in this situation,” lamented Amarchand, another migrant worker who also appealed the J&K authority to take steps to evacuate them.
Earlier, Nodal Officer for J&K appointed by GoAP, Romli Baanyia informed that they are trying their best to extend all-possible help to these stranded people and are also waiting for assistance from J&K to evacuate them safely.
