ITANAGAR, Jul 18:

Irked over delay in disbursing the stipend of students, the Joint Interim Committee (JIC) has decided to hold a peaceful protest in the form of Chakka-Bandh on July 20 next from tennis court IG Park to Secretariat office gate.

In a memorandum addressed to Chief Secretary, the Joint Interim Committee (JIC) has alleged that few who have received their stipends did not get the exact amount as promised by the authority.

Referring to assurances given by SJETA Director and CS JIC & AAPSU team on July 3 last to clear all the pending stipends, the union said that during the meeting it was decided  to give RS 26,000 to non Technical students, 53,000-63,000 to Technical students, LLB etc, 65,000 and above to Medical & Nursing students and above.

However, the union alleged that students are presently receiving Rs. 4,000, 9,000, 17,000, 50,000, 59,000 only and thousands of  students are still waiting and yet to get their stipends.

Later expressing resentment over listing of above 2000 students in rejected list of stipends on the ground for not submitting NOC, the committee alleged that earlier they held a meeting on February 18 last related to NOC with concern authority, where it was decided that only those students studying at Higher & Technical will have to submit NOC to avail the stipend amount.

The committee said that most of the students whose names were listed in rejection list were duly qualified.

Demanding immediate cancellation of NOC system, the committee informed that during the meeting the Government had agreed not to collect NOC from the Students.

However the government backtracked from its promise and made NOC mandatory for students to receive stipends, added JIC
