Naharlagun, Jan 31: In continuation with its training programme on consumer protection, the department of Legal Metrology & Consumer Affairs organized a one-day training programme on “BIS Hallmarking system and proper use of weights and measures” here today at its conference hall for jewellers and goldsmiths of the Capital Complex.
The Controller Legal Metrology & CA, Hoktum Ori welcoming the participants appealed them to cooperate with the department by using weights and measures in proper manner particularly in dealing with their customers. He also suggested for taking full benefits from the programme regarding BIS Hallmarking which has been introduced by Bureau of Indian Standards for the protection of consumers as well to boost the image of the country in bullion trade in international arena.
Deputy Controller,D. Marbom suggested the participants to apply the knowledge they have gained from the training into practical application for the benefit of both sellers and buyers and to improve the image of bullion trade in Arunachal Pradesh.
K. P. Tago, Asstt. Controller (HQ) highlighted on standardization of products with special reference to International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and Indian Standard (IS) through power point presentation. Talking about national standards framed by the Bureau of Indian Standards, he urged the participating jewellers and goldsmiths to get themselves registered under BIS Hallmarking system for improving their product quality as well to draw greater trust of their customers.
Papum Pare District Assistant Controller, Amrit Taba while briefing on legal implication on use of non-standard weights and measures and other irregularities in the trade of precious metals, asked the participants to take extra care in dealing with their customers with regards to quality and quantity of products.
Based on a suggestion put forward by a few jewellers, TabaTabin, ACLM (HQ) assured to take up with the government in connection with establishment of an Assaying & Hallmarking center at Capital Complex to operate under the Department of Legal Metrology & CA so as to cater its services to the jewellers and goldsmiths of the state.
Papum Pare Inspector LM&CA, Debia Tana, highlighted on various provisions of Weights and Measures Act that concern with maintaining of accuracy of commercial weights and measures while G. Singpho, Inspector LM Itanagar enumerated the panel provisions of the Act that attractpenalties for irregularities in use of weights and measures.
More than 50 jewellers/ goldsmiths attended the training programme who also received sample copies of the application forms and guidelines for registering under BIS Hallmarking system. LMCA
