ITANAGAR, Mar 6: Bihar’s ruling Janata Dal-United (JD-U) will be contesting the ensuing Arunachal legislative assembly polls without any pre-poll alliance and would field as many candidates in majority of seats.
This was stated by General Secretary-Northeast executive council, Afaque Ahmed Khan on Wednesday. JD-U which is based on the principles of ‘secularism’ and ‘socialism’ has adopted ‘Development with Justice’ as the slogan for the election campaign here in the state.
However, Khan did not divulge the names of candidates for the polls but revealed that many aspirants have shown interest to contest from JD-U tickets.
“The number of seats the party would contest as well as the names of the nominees would be announced very soon,” Khan told reporters in a press conference held at a city hotel. He also said that the main criterion for selection will be ‘taint-free’ image.
Chairman, NSN Lotha said “as per JD-U is concerned, although the party is national in outlook, it is totally regional in approach.” He also clarified that its alliance with BJP is restricted to Bihar and it would contest in Arunachal legislatively assembly election alone.
He added that the Chief of JD-U, Nitish Kumar is taking keen interest to expand the party’s foothold beyond Bihar.
Speaking of the party’s strategy, Lotha said “if voted to power, then party’s first main agenda would be to root out corruption, crime and communalism from the state under the vibrant and dynamic party hierarchy of JD-U, chief Nitish Kumar.”

“The indigenous people of the state are today looking for a credible alternative as they have lost faith over both the BJP and the Congress party. There is resentment against the ruling BJP for misgovernance and people are not seeing any hope in the opposition Congress party too," Lotha alleged while pitching the party as an alternative to the two national parties.

Stating that development should not be concentrated in a particular area of the state, he alleged that “ today we see that only state capital is developed while other parts of the state are left backward which clearly indicates partiality in distributing fruits of development by the present government.”
Also extending its sincere condolences to the aggrieved family members of those who died in the unrest triggered by PRC issue, the party strongly condemned the state for playing with sentiments of the indigenous people of the state.
“We strongly condemn this kind of experiment by people in power on the future of state-indigenous people,” Lotha slammed.
The above points are the reasons why the party has decided to contest the election, offer an alternative and become the voice and representative of the tribal people in the state, he asserted.
