ITANAGAR, May 3: Janata Dal-United candidate from 20-Tali Assembly Constituency Jikke Tako has blamed his rival BJP candidate for poll violence and damaging bridge in Gimba polling station during April 27 re-poll.
Addressing a press conference today at Press Club, Tako alleged that the poll team failed to reach Gimba polling station to conduct re-poll on April 27 last due to this undemocratic act of the contesting BJP candidate.
The JD-U candidate has also urged the Election Commission of India to re-conduct election in this polling station within a stipulated time frame to avoid further tension in the area. “We have submitted the representation letter to the CEO seeking his intervention on the re-poll at Gimba polling station. Re-poll in the said polling station could not be conducted due to hijacking of polling officials including the Returning Officer of 20-Tali Assembly Constituency and their purposeful diversion through a wrong route just to avoid re-poll,” he asserted.
Citing the reports filed by the officer on duty on the same day, Tako said that police officials who reached the Gimba polling station categorically wrote in their report that no re-polling was held there. Superseding the report of the Presiding Officer, Returning Officer of 20-Tali AC in his statement submitted to the Election Commission also confirmed that no poll was conducted in Gimba on 27 April, claimed Tako.
When asked about damages to the bridge that connects Gimba polling station, Tako categorically said that he and his supporters were not involved in anti-social activities and it was the act of the BJP candidate.
“I don't endorse violence and I have appealed to the concerned authority to maintain peace so that free & fair election could be held in the said polling station,” added Tako while requesting his rival candidate to maintain the same.
