ITANAGAR/ JOTE, Nov 21: Students of the newly established Jarbom Gamlin Government Law College (JGGLC) Jote staged dharna at the college campus today to highlight their demands.
Students holding placards and banners demanded regular principal, relaxation in 75 % attendance for the semester exam, posting of Non-Teaching staff, reasonable bus fare, auditorium, proper internet & books in library, formation of students' representatives and other basic amenities in the campus.
Speaking to this reporter, agitating students briefed about the reason and their charter of demands. “Since inception of the college we have been assured of basic facilities like proper hostels for both boys and girl, bus services and others but till date, there is no hostel and not even water in the toilets,” one of the students vented anger. He further added that the college is situated more than 60 km from the capital which makes difficult for most of the students to attend regularly and although bus service was started recently, high fare which is Rs 1500 per month has proved too high for most students and the demand for relaxation in attendance is due to this factor.
Another student lamented about absence of water facilities, canteen and most importantly internet. To solve all these issues we need a regular principal in the college so that grievances of the students can be conveyed to the higher authority and even if many assurance were given by the Chief Minister during the inaugural ceremony of the college in October last, they are yet to be fulfilled, the students said unanimously.
Meanwhile, Assistant Professor, Tokmen Doming clarified that the authority is doing its best to bring all the basic facilities to the college. On relaxation of attendance, she clarified that norms of the University/College are applicable and moreover students have given their consent regarding the attendance during their admission. “ The doors are open for students and they can come to us to share grievances and even there is a platform called ‘Open House’ where students can directly speak to Head of the college,” she added while informing that the college is in its initial stage and the required facilities would be fulfilled in coming days.
