ITANAGAR, Aug 23: Itanagar Capital Region (ICR) resembles a fortress by the presence of huge number of security forces ahead of the ensuing Assembly Session and the 36- hour bandh called by the All Nyishi Youth Association (ANYA) on August 27-28 next.
With apprehension of PRC like unrest in the capital region, the Home Department has called in huge security forces from the districts and requisition from the Ministry of Home Affairs. This was informed by the Inspector General of Police, Law & Order, Chuku Apa recently in a press conference.
As per reliable sources, near about 42 companies of Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) and civil police from various districts have been brought in to the Itanagar Capital Region till filing of this report on Sunday.
However, this huge influx has also alarmed the public whether COVID-19 SOPs are being properly followed for these security personnel.
When contacted, Secretary Health & Family Welfare, P Parthiban informed that testing for the forces is being conducted at respective entries. ‘Whenever the concerned official informs us about the entry of security forces, our team conducts the testing,' he said.
Giving more information, DMO Itanagar, Dr. M Perme said that on Friday last, 89 security personnel were tested and six of them were found positive. On Sunday, out of 68 security personnel tested, five tested positive. All the positive personnel have been shifted to COVID Care Center, he informed.
Further, Dr. Perme added that as per the latest Government SOPs, Intra- districts travelers are not required to take the Rapid Antigen Test. Intra districts travelers coming via Assam with gate pass from Point Of Entry (POE) within 24 hours are also not required to take the RAT test.
In view of the bandh call, the District Administration ICR has allotted several establishments for security forces. At Itanagar -- Government Higher Secondary Schools at ESS Sector, Arunodaya and Ganga, Vidhyut Bhawan O-Point, Banquet Hall, Badminton Hall at Raj Bhawan, BPL Building at Gohpur. At Naharlagun, the Govt. Middle School, GHSS Kankar Nallah, Municipal Office, Scouts & Guides Building,ISBT and Truck Terminal at Nirjuli, have been earmarked for security forces.
The All Nyishi Youth Association (ANYA) has declared a 36-hour Itanagar Capital Region (ICR) bandh on August 27-28 next demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Pema Khandu. ANYA has demanded white paper on the financial status of the state and report on Trans Arunachal Highway compensation, APSSB scam, and withdrawal of demand for Mon Autonomous Region.
