NAHARLAGUN, Jul 26: Capital Complex, District Transport Officer(DTO), Chakfa Wangsu on Friday called for a collective effort to contain the traffic congestion, road accidents in the state capital by simply obeying traffic rules.
Pointing out that public cooperation is needed for effective implementation of road safety regulations, Wangsu asked vehicle owners to always carry full documents of their vehicle.
With regard to traffic fines, the DTO stated “We levy fines and charges against defaulters in order to spread awareness and not particularly for revenue collection."
According to the DTO, more than 3000 violators were imposed fine for defying various traffic norms since the last part of December 2018 till date.
He also informed that approximately there are more than 75,000 vehicles registered under Capital Complex and an average of 900 new registration of the vehicle is processed per month from the DTO office.
Taking serious note on the increasing traffic accidents, Wangsu termed the growing number of road accidents in the state as a matter of grave concern, and stated "it is extremely sad that so many innocent lives are lost every day due to these accidents".
He stated that few factors contributing to rising accidents case are mostly due to irresponsible driving, narrow roads and bad condition of roads in the state capital.
Wangsu also informed that very soon, the department is planning to conduct a mass traffic awareness program for bureaucrats, technocrats, public leaders and for students in the state capital.
In the meantime, he asked the public to respect traffic wardens and traffic rules, enforcers.
Furthermore, the DTO reiterated his commitment to bring down the number of accidents and claimed that the department is working in earnest towards this end.
