LONGDING, Feb 25: Protracted and concerted efforts by Longding Police, 40 AR and the Longding team of 3 FID in bringing the militants back to the mainstream gave results today with en masse surrendering of eight such hitherto-underground extremists.
The militants belonging to the NSCN (K) and NSCN (IM) voluntarily surrendered before Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Magistrate Longding Bani Lego and the Superintendent of Police and DSP R Khomrang. 
The militants who surrendered are Ngomgang Gangsa (NSCN-K, Rank- SS Corporal, joined in 2011), Manhang Pansa (NSCN-K, Rank-SS Pvt., joined in 2009, Manging Pansa (NSCN-K, Rank-SS L/Corporal, joined in 2011), Pansai Pansai (NSCN-K, Rank-SS Pvt., joined in 2013), Wangphe  Wangsa ( NSCN-K, Rank- SS Pvt., joined in 2010), Chakwang Wangsu (NSCN-IM, Rank-SS Pvt., joined in 2009), Khampai Wangsu (NSCN-K, Rank-SS Corporal, joined in 2005) and Nokdun Wangsu (NSCN-IM, Rank -SS Pvt., joined in 2010).  
On being asked the reason for giving up arms, the militants said they wanted to relinquish the path of violence and had made up their mind to surrender long ago.  According to one of them, he was forcefully recruited in the organization, but decided to shun all illegal activities from this year and start a normal life. The surrender in this case was preceded by effective counselling by local police and relatives. The DC while welcoming the militants to the mainstream encouraged them to make a new beginning and cautioned them from going back to the path of violence.
The formal surrender ceremony was conducted at the DC’s office and Surrender Certificates were handed over on the occasion. It’s a positive development in the counter insurgency operations in Longding district, the SP said. DIPRO
