ITANAGAR, Aug 9: The Arunachal Pradesh Catholic Association (APCA) in collaboration with Arunachal Citizen’s Rights (ACR) and Don Bosco College, Itanagar observed  the “International Day of  World’s Indigenous  People 2021” today at Don Bosco College Jollang, Itanagar with the theme “Leaving No One Behind”.
Attending the event as Chief Guest, Bengia Tolum, President Arunachal Indigenous Tribes  Forum (AITF) spoke about his personal experience of belonging to the Nyishi indigenous culture. 
Thomas Menaparampil, Archbishop Emeritus of Guwahati gave a historical presentation of how major groups  have absorbed minor groups by which their identities have been lost.He appealed to the tribal leaders present not to lose their identity either through outside invasion or through internal erosion by losing core indigenous values like equality, fraternity, collective spirit etc.
Speaking on the occasion, Babloo Loitongbam, Director, Human Rights Alert, gave the inception and beginning of the international day,to mark the establishment of the Working Group on Indigenous Population in 1982, in the backdrop of the long struggle for recognition of the rights of the indigenous peoples. He highlighted the need for implementation of United Nation Declaration on the Rights of the Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) particularly referring to Article 11 sub clause (2) of the principle of Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) of the Indigenous Peoples in the developmental activities carried out in their land, territory and resources. 
Among others,Father CC Jose, Rector, Don Bosco College , BamangTago, Director, Arunachal Citizen’s Rights (ACR),John Thomas, Bishop of Itanagar also spoke on the occasion
