PASIGHAT, Dec 31: Donyi Polo Day was celebrated by the indigenous faith believers across the state on the last day of the year today.
The main celebration took place here at the Central Donyi-Polo Yelam Kebang Centre in which several hundreds of believers of the indigenous religion of Donyi-Poloism assembled to offer prayers. The day was also celebrated at the Donyi Polo Gangging of Central Donyi Polo Yelam Kebang, Pasighat by the followers with traditional religious zeal wherein prayers to appease the Sun and Moon Gods were offered. Besides traditional cultural items, the first ever short film on Donyi Polo by renowned singer of the state Delong Padung was also released.
Speaking on the occasion, President, Central Donyi Polo Yelam Kebang, Pasighat Ajem Tayeng highlighted the importance of the day for all indigenous believers of Donyi-Poloism.
President, Indigenous Faith & Cultural Society of Arunachal Pradesh Tajom Tasung informed the day besides being observed across the state was also celebrated in Dhemaji and Majuli districts of Assam where all the six Tani tribes of Arunachal Pradesh offered prayers to Donyi-Polo, the natural God.
