Rono Hills, Jul 22:  Education Minister Er. Taba Tedir on Wednesday while addressing a gathering of 700 participants in the online inaugural session of “Cross Platform Dialogues: A National webinar Series across Eight Disciplines”, organized by Institute of Distance Education (IDE), Rajiv Gandhi University announced that the state government is working to introduce a third language which will include local dialects in the syllabi for the Class VI-VIII students.
Stating that language(s) are the hallmarks of every culture and there is an urgent need for their preservation in Arunachal Pradesh which is the home to a plethora of dialects, Tedir asserted that is the only way to preserve the ethnicity of the state and opined that parents also need to ensure that local dialects are preserved through speaking at homes and among those who speak the same language. The Education Minister who was also the Chief Guest said that Arunachal being a hilly and remote state has its own connectivity and access issues, but with technological interventions, students can now access educational channels as well as online platforms for study purposes. He instructed the students to utilize the new online mode of learning appropriately and thanked the IDE for extending the outreach of education to the remote areas of the state. He also appealed to the students not to get overwhelmed by Covid-19 pandemic and continue studies through online mode.
The webinar which is a collaborative output of eight RGU departments will have a duration of eight days and will see wide-ranging deliberations by twenty-five eminent speakers from fifteen different universities across eleven states. RGU VC Professor Saket Kushwaha who chaired the webinar instructed the participants to understand the importance of the cross-disciplinary programme and said the syllabus design of distance education has much similarity with the regular courses in the university. The varsity’s Pro VC Professor Amitava Mitra wished the organizing team for the success of the programme. Director, IDE, Professor Ashan Riddi gave a brief background of the webinar and stressed on the inevitable role of dual modes of education in higher learning and remarked that distance mode has become one of the well-accepted modes during the pandemic times. Core Coordinator of the workshop Moyir Riba conducted the inaugural session. 

The inaugural session concluded with a vote of thanks by the RGU Registrar Professor Tomo Riba which was followed by the first technical session on the theme ‘Economic Development in North East India: Opportunities and Challenges’ organized in collaboration with the Department of Economics, RGU. Over the next seven days there will be daylong sessions on Education, English, History, Hindi, Political Science, Sociology and Tribal Studies.
In terms of participation, the webinar is one of the largest organized by RGU. In addition to a capacity of 500 on the platform, participants also connected themselves through live streaming on YouTube. RGU PR
