MIAO, Jun 14: The Indian Army battalion based at Miao in Changlang district extended help to the de - addiction cum rehabilitation center here run by NGO Tribal Development & Welfare Society today.
As of now, the center at Upper Miao has 21 inmates. The army doctor conducted free checkup and thereafter provided medicines free of cost to all the inmates of the center today. Food essentials, medicine were also distributed.
Talking to this correspondent, the officer in command of the battalion reiterated its commitment to contribute largely in making Miao a drug free administrative subdivision. He also assured to help United Miao Mission and its youth wing Miao Singpho Ramma Hpung in getting funds for construction of a youth club at Miao through military civic action program.
"Apart from fighting insurgents and restoring peace and tranquility, the Indian Army is committed to bridge the gap with the common masses through various activities like free health camps and building infrastructures etc," he said.
The de-addiction center started the course from June 1 and has 21 inmates from Jairampur, Namsangmukh (Deomali), Kharsang, Namsai, Miao and Jagun in neighbouring Assam. The addict inmates will undergo four months course. Apart from medication, the center moulds and treats the inmates through meditation, yoga, counseling and group sharing.
Incharge of the center, Bigu Saikia extended gratefulness to the Miao Battalion.
"The help given by the army will play a vital role in making the de-addiction course a grand success," he said, while appealing to all concerned to take advantage of the course.
