ITANAGAR, Jun 6: Chief Minister Pema Khandu today clarified that the incident resulting in the deaths of two individuals along the Torajan area of Lower Siang in Arunachal Pradesh and Dhemaji district of Assam was not a border dispute but rather a private land dispute.
Khandu stated that he has directed the Home Minister and the Director General of Police (DGP) to closely follow up on the case to prevent any further escalation of the situation. Five individuals have been arrested so far in connection with the case, as reported. Khandu also mentioned that he has been in constant communication with the administrations of both districts, as well as with the local MLAs and MPs from both states.
The Chief Minister stressed that the incident should not be perceived as a border dispute between the two states. He explained that Assam and Arunachal Pradesh have already resolved the border dispute in around 123 villages, with only a few areas remaining that require joint visits and demarcation. He further reassured that the situation in the Dhemaji area has now returned to normalcy.
