BOMDILA, Jul 8: Incessant rain which started on Sunday has resulted in landslides and flashfloods in parts of West Kameng with a woman reportedly missing.Landslides have occured at various places especially in the Balipara-Charduar-Tawang (BCT) road whereas falling of rocks has also been reported in the Orang-Kalaktang-Shergaon-Rupa-Tenga (OKSRT) road.
Hundreds of vehicles including passenger vehicles and army convoys were left stranded prompting the District Administration to raise serious concern over the preparedness level of BRTF especially during the monsoon season. Deputy Commissioner in-charge ADC A Pertin in an order dated July 8, directed BRTF to come up with a plan to effectively meet up the monsoon challenges in line with the Disaster Management plans. He also issued direction for putting up of adequate number of machines and manpower including standby at all vulnerable points, both in BCT and OKSRT roads so that movement of essential commodities, public and army convoys are not hampered.
At around two in the afternoon, the RCC culvert bridge at Kaspi under Singchung administrative sub-division in the district was washed out and the Boys’ Hostel and four other SPT buildings in the periphery were also damaged. A restaurant located nearby was washed out and a few vehicles parked alongside were badly damaged. In the midst of all, one Kanchi Mosbu, a 23-year old woman has been reported to be missing. The stretch of PMGSY road connecting Nag Mandir -Jamiri-Buragaon administrative center was also badly damaged, informed Executive Engineer, RWD Singchung, Onyang Tatak.
Speaking to this daily, local MLA Thrizino- Buragaon, Kumsi Sidisow informed that he has already directed the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Singchung to visit the place with men and equipment for rescue operation as well as to assess the damages.
'Due to the ongoing budget session, I am unable to visit the place but as soon as the session gets over I will visit the incident site,’ he said while adding that he has directed the concern authorities to confer immediate relief materials to the victims.
Deputy Commissioner Sonal Swaroop has ordered the closure of BCT road and banned entry of vehicles from Assam side in Bhalukpong and Tenga side in the district. Directives have also been passed on to the administrative officers to issue prohibitory orders banning venturing into rivers and nallahs. DC also directed ADC Singchung and ADC Rupa to evacuate people from the flash flood areas and ensure food, shelter and drinking water on priority.
Meanwhile, Singchung administration and police are engaged in evacuating the people of Hemoibung village located on the banks of Zding-Kho river. A dwelling house was also damaged this morning at Sera village near Bomdila by the landslide triggered by incessant rain. 24x7 Emergency Control Rooms have been activated in all the administrative circles but incessant rain is hampering evacuation activities undertaken jointly by the administration, police and BRTF.
