ITANAGAR, Jun 24: Incessant rain over the last couple of days has created a flood-like situation in Namsai and its adjoining areas, resulting in submerging of houses, paddy fields and government as well as private establishments.
“We have been facing problems to reach office and even the Mini Secretariat compound is flooded with water.
Namsai township needs a proper drainage system to avoid waterlogging,” a denizen reacted sharply. Another denizen from the adjoining rural area while lamenting that his house has been totally submerged in flash flood, requested the concerned authority and the local MLA to extend immediate relief to the flood-affected families of Namsai district.
“I, along with JE WRD visited the flood-affected areas in the district and it is quite evident that the whole of the district is now under rainwater which has remained stagnant,” informed DDMO Namsai Emily Tingkhatra Dutta.
She also disclosed that Namsai recorded the highest rainfall today which was 105.00 mm, Chongkham 71.40 mm and Mahadevpur 116.20 mm, adding that the water level of Noa-Dehing river at BRTF bridge point is 1.05 meter which is below the danger level. Briefing more about the situation, DDMO informed that many villages are submerged in floodwater due to poor drainage systems.
Residents whose houses are likely to be submerged in floodwater have been asked to contact the District Emergency Operational Centre (DEOC) Control Room so that they can be shifted to the designated relief camp. “The DEOC in the Mini Secretariat has been operational 24x7 since the monsoon started,” DDMO informed.
JE WRD T Borang in his report has mentioned that besides flash floods in urban areas, villages like Silatoo Khamti has seen soil erosion with waterlogging at Sitpani village, washout of the diversion link road at Philobari village and soil erosions at Rangalibeel village.
Meanwhile, a family in the 2nd Mile, Namsai has been shifted to their relative's residence as their house was totally submerged in floodwater.
