AALO, Sep 11: A verbal argument between two Indo Tibetan Border Police ( ITBP)  personnel deployed on sentry duty led to one of the personnel firing a couple of shots into the air nearby Gumin Nagar, Aalo , a top police official from Aalo said on Thursday.
The gunfire was reported at midnight on Wednesday when locals aired a message in WhatsApp about hearing sound of a possible gunshot from the Gumin Nagar area where the ITBP Camp is located, while also requesting to alert the police.
On being informed of the matter, the officer said that the officer-in-charge (OC) of the Aalo police station rushed to the spot to investigate the matter, which is located some 2-3km from the main police station.
"Further investigation revealed that the shots were fired by one of the personnel deputed on sentry duty following an argument. The personnel also confessed in front of his superiors that the bullet was accidentally fired in a fit of rage" the officer revealed.
However, the official refrained from revealing the number of bullets fired and the reason leading to the incident.
“The incident is purely a personal matter and further investigations indicate that the bullets were accidentally fired without any criminal intent. The incident has no relation with the public nor is it related to law and order problems," the official said, adding that the matter has now been resolved within the organization.
