ZIRO, Jun 12: In a unique event on Sunday last the Goan Buras and Buris (most of them illiterate) picked up pencils and colors to participate in a drawing competition organised by Yachang Tacho under the aegis of Diibo Goan Bura buri association, Ziro at Dutta Middle School.
There were many who picked up the crayons and sketch pens for the first time in their lives.
Tacho says by organising such events, he wants the Goan Buras and Buris to come out of their stereotypical work of just solving civil cases.
" As the chosen elders of  society, we need to ensure that our children are  not waylaid by various social evils and bad practices. This is an effort to instill the love for pens , pencils ,books and the amazing world it creates. If the eldest in  society starts the trend of picking up pens and pencils, I am sure our youths will too," he said.
Yachang Tacho, who is also the Convenor of the Diibo Goan Buras and Buris Association informed that among the 36 members who participated only six of them have  got their elementary education up to class -V and the rest 30 have never been to school.
The prizes of the competition will be given away on 5th July during Dree and their drawings will be displayed, Tacho further informed. This Goan Bura buri association is a trendsetter in many activities. To improve the self-confidence as well as to impart knowledge about their powers  and functions , the association organized first ever Mr. & Mrs. Gaon Bura, Gaon Buri contest in 2019.
The Association has also amicably solved as many as 23 civil cases in their jurisdiction in last 6 years.
They have also conducted  various awareness camps on Health, Disaster Management, Environment, Weight & Measure, Legal etc in their jurisdiction.
