ITANAGAR, Sep 25: Itanagar Municipal Corporation Mayor Tame Phassang distributed free rice (5Kg) to various needy people under  Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) on the occasion of the 105th  birth anniversary of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya here at Naharlgun today.
Speaking to reporters, Phassang informed that, though PMGKAY is a scheme of the central government to confer free rice to the needy people, the main objective of this event is to provide ration to those people who were left out in the last distribution. So taking the opportunity of the birth anniversary of the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya, we are distributing free ration to the needy people, he said adding that similar programmes will be also held in different locations of the capital region.
Responding to the query of reporters, the Mayor informed that a team of IMC will soon visit the national capital to meet the central minister and to attend a meeting called by the Prime Minister with all the urban local bodies and other heads to discuss various developmental issues of the state in October. We are very sure that pending funds under Atal Mission Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) will be released by the concerned Ministry so that our work on Sewage treatment Plant, Solid waste management plant and others will be completed soon, Phassang said.
The working season has started already, so IMC will start its work as soon as funds are released by the Ministry, and I assure the public that without any corruption we will complete the projects, asserted the Mayor.
Among others, President Capital BJP- Tarh Sophing, Corporator ward No.16, Tarh  Achak, Corporator Gyamar Taz, members of Mahila Morcha BJP and others also attended the event.
