ITANAGAR, Mar 31: A massive disinfection exercise was carried out at all residential areas including shops on both sides of NH-415 from A-sector, Naharlagun to Pappu Nallah on Tuesday.
This is in addition to the disinfectant drive carried out in Itanagar on Monday evening, which is part of a larger effort of the capital district administration to control a possible COVID-19 outbreak.
With the support of the Fire department and veterinary staff, the Itanagar Municipal Council (IMC) has taken up the onus to disinfect the city.
Interacting with this daily, Chief Executive Officer of IMC, Tadar Tarang who is leading the drive said that disinfection is being carried in areas where there is a high chance of contamination especially shops and residences nearby highway.
" We started the drive in the morning hours, but due to high traffic, we had to stop the disinfection drive at A-Sector, Naharlagun. We resumed this process around 5:00 pm and successfully sprayed disinfectant on all buildings on both sides of the highway, " Tarang said.
He said the prior announcement was made to residents and shop owners to close windows and doors and to keep clothes indoors. A total of 3 fire tenders with misting mechanisms from the Fire Department including two vehicles from IMC are being deployed to carry out the disinfectant task. In addition, 10 IMC staffers equipped with backpack sprinkler machines are also assisting in disinfecting vegetable market areas.
Disinfectant drives will cover the entire city and various public places especially with high rates of footfall would be sterilized.
