ITANAGAR, Apr 10: The Indian Medical Association, Arunachal State Chapter (IMA -AP) in its representation to the Chief Minister of Assam has requested for extension of the ongoing lockdown to combat COVID-19. IMA-AP stated ‘Assam is the gateway of all the North-Eastern States, with the rise of COVID cases pan India including your state, the chances of getting infection by our NE people residing outside NE has increased several folds. Many asymptomatic carriers might enter the state if lockdown is lifted. Assam will turn out to be the hotspot of this pandemic if they are to come back to their respective states via your state.'
The Association said that other than Assam, many NE States don’t have any Antibody test kit (Screening Kit) to screen as well as RT-PCR (Confirmatory test) facility. Neither do they have adequate ICU facilities and other logistics. Lifting of lockdown will be catastrophic to this population who are already struggling with lockdown.
In its press communiqué, IMA –AP also stated ‘Assam Government may liaise with other respective state governments where students are stranded and provide them financial help as well as ensure adequate food supply and security. The government can explore possibility of leasing hotels or safe buildings for this purpose in the respective states too.'
