Upper Kolam, Feb 25: The District Administration, Department of Tax, Excise & Narcotics, in coordination with Tirap Police, 36 Battalion CRPF, and 44 Assam Rifles, conducted a joint poppy cultivation destruction drive at Upper Kolam village in Tirap district on Wednesday. The operation was carried out as part of sustained efforts to curb illegal narcotics cultivation in the region.
Acting on specific information, the joint team launched a well-coordinated operation in the area and successfully identified and destroyed approximately 11,500 square metres of illegal poppy cultivation, estimated to be worth several crores of rupees. The drive was conducted in a systematic and controlled manner, ensuring complete destruction of the illicit crop while strictly adhering to legal procedures and safety protocols.
The initiative forms part of the ongoing anti-narcotics campaign aimed at discouraging unlawful cultivation practices that adversely affect the youth and the social fabric of Tirap district.
The proactive measures undertaken by the District Administration and security forces were appreciated by local residents, further strengthening trust and cooperation between the authorities and the community.
