ITANAGAR, Dec 18: In view of the PR and Municipal elections in the state scheduled on December 22, at least 8206 security personnel from both the state police and paramilitary forces are being pressed into service for manning overall security.
This was informed today by IGP (Law & Order) Chuku Apa in a press briefing here at the Police Headquarters. Elaborating on security arrangements, the IGP stated there are at least 2268 polling stations in various districts and the police stations have been categorised as normal, sensitive and hypersensitive. There will be at least two police personnel at the normal police stations, three in sensitive and four in the hypersensitive ones, the IGP informed. Appealing to the people to maintain peace and tranquillity during the pre and post-election period, Apa said that security personnel will be available at 702 normal polling stations, 536 sensitive polling stations and 258 hypersensitive polling stations. “Due to withdrawal of nominations in many PR and Municipal seats, the number of polling stations have been reduced,” he added.
Briefing about the Itanagar Capital Region, SP-ICR Jimmy Chiram informed that capital police have intensified patrolling and at least 11 Nakas have been established to check anti-social elements during the election process. During checking, at least 177 matchets, 400 litres of liquor, few arms and various other lethal weapons have been seized, the SP informed, adding that around 411 companies of state forces, two company of CRPF, 101 lady constables, 88 Itanagar traffic wardens and 12 forest guards have been assigned for pre and post-election duties in the ICR.
The SP further informed there will be strict security arrangements in 47 polling stations of 14 Municipal wards and 19 polling stations in the three ZPM segments of Bath, Banderdewa and Borum.
