Shillong, Oct 4: On the day of visit of Vice President, M Venkaiah Naidu to the Meghalaya capital, the Bomb Squad of the State police on Monday averted a bomb blast at Lower Lachaumiere,in the heart of the city in front of the office of the ruling National People’sParty (NPP).
Police said a 2.5 kg Improvised Explosive Devices (IED)bomb made with commercial gelatine sticks was planted in-front of the gate of the NPP office here, but did not explode due to erroneous wiring.
However, a team of the bomb detection and disposal squad(BDDS) safely defused the explosive. Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) General Secretary Sainkupar Nongtraw  has claimed responsibility through its Facebook account for planting the IED bomb at the gate of NPP office.
The outfit was also responsible for IED blasts in the recent past at the Laitumkhrah market, Shillong and at a police reserve at Khliehriat, East Jaintia Hills.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said, “I have not got an official report from the police department. Once I get the full report I will be able to comment”.
Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui said that investigation was on in this regard.
Meghalaya police spokesperson Gabriel Iangrai said a case under relevant provisions of law is being registered at Laitumkhrah Police Station against the members of the proscribed outfit HNLC who have made claimed through social media about planting the explosive substances in front of NPP office.
In an e-mailed statement issued to the media, the HNLC general secretary Nongtraw claimed responsibility for planting an IED at Lachumiere NPP's office without executing it. The rebel leader also warned NPP workers and demanded their immediate resignation and “should refrain from joining the party within a month, failing to do so, the Council will take strong measures against the higher-ups office bearers of the NPP in Khasi as well as in Jaintia hills.”
"Those who go against this warning, will need not ask any questions or seek any answers from the HNLC," Nongtraw stated.
“We have received information from reliable sources regarding the death of  Bah Che, that it was a complete political conspiracy by some ministers of the state of Meghalaya and where these ministers will hide themselves before the upcoming elections, we will hunt them, chase them and intimidate them, hence we will shoot and kill them without any mercy [sic],”the HNLC statement said.
