Khonsa, Sep 30: Department of Horticulture, Tirap district carried out a Kiwi fruit harvesting drive at Thinsa on Wednesday for the horticulture labourers and farmers of the area. ADC Hq and I/c. Deputy Commissioner Kretkam Tikhak, DHO Tobom Bam, HDO Hq Tolong Sumnyan, IPR representative Gawang Sumpa were present on the occasion. ADC Hq urged the DHO and his team to exhort the farmers of other villages of the district to grow Kiwi for sustainable income generation.
While harvesting Kiwifruit at Kiwi Garden Thinsa, the HDO Hq recalled the history of the garden’s establishment way back in 2001, adding that this year around 500 kg of Kiwifruit have been harvested in the village. Replying to ADC’s query regarding the financial requirement for establishment of a Kiwi garden on 1 acre land, the HDO gave an estimate that Rs. 6 lakh will be required for the purpose. DHO further informed that the Thinsa Kiwifruit will be sold at a reasonable cost of Rs. 100 per kg for which few sales counters have been earmarked at Khonsa bazar. DIPRO
