PASIGHAT, Oct 14: Pasighat police has successfully solved a hit-and-run case that resulted in death of the victim within three days after receiving the complaint.
The said incident took place on October 10 last between 11 & 11.30 hrs at 2 Mile area here near Essar petrol pump which caused the death of one Karan alias Vishnu Limbo. On receiving a written FIR from one Ning Rome that an unknown Tata Sumo has hit Karan, police launched an investigation and within 3 days the culprit was finally arrested on Sunday. The police statement reads that after hitting the victim, the vehicle fled from spot and a case vide PSGT PS C/No. 197/19 U/S 279/304(A) was registered with SI V. Lowang assigned as the head of investigation. CCTV footage of 2 Mile Check gate was checked and the vehicle was seen fleeing from the spot, but as traffic was heavy, it was not possible to pinpoint the vehicle which hit the victim. A screenshot of the vehicle (white Tata Sumo) was taken which revealed certain characteristics like blackened rear glass with a red horizontal line and a rod like bumper protector on both front & rear. The photo was circulated among sources and confirmation was received that it was a vehicle that plies from Aalo in West Siang district to Silapathar in Dhemaji district of Assam. Receiving this information, Raneghat Checkgate records were verified and it was found that one G. Tamang had crossed the gate on the date of incidence which was also confirmed by cctv footage.Accordingly, Tamang was tracked and after receiving information on October 13 that the vehicle was going towards Assam, it was intercepted at Ruksin with the help of Ruksin police and the alleged accused, a permanent resident of village Konamukh Kochubi, PO/PS Tezpur and currently residing at Urban Development Colony, Aalo was arrested on Sunday. This was confirmed by Superintendent of Police, East Siang, Rajiv Ranjan Singh.
