ITANAGAR, Mar 10: Governor of Arunachal Pradesh Brig. (Dr.) B.D Mishra today inaugurated the 71st annual conference of the Hindi Sahitya Sammelan, Prayag at Rajiv Gandhi University, Rono Hills, Doimukh.
Governor said that although Arunachal Pradesh has 26 major tribes and more than 110 sub-tribes with distinct dialects, Hindi is the state’s lingua franca as members of  all  tribes interact with each other through Hindi.
Sharing his personal experience during his tour to all the districts of the state, Governor said that all Arunachalees greeted him with ‘Jai Hind’ and interacted in Hindi which reflects the popularity of Hindi in the state. He also commented that hindi songs are sung maximum in Arunachal Pradesh amongst all Northeastern states.
Recalling the political farsightedness of first Chief Minister of Kerala, E.M.S Namboodiripad, who introduced compulsory Hindi in primary and secondary schools, Governor said that it is because of this initiative, people from Kerala are working efficiently in various parts of the country.
Talking about the promotion of Hindi in the country, he also recalled the contribution of Thakur Shiv Singh Sengar in 1833, Dr. Sit Griyarson in 1889, Nagari Pracharni Sabha in 1900 and Pandit Shyam Bihari Misra in 1913 through ‘Mishra Bandhu Vinod’ compilations. Their sustained efforts resulted in making Hindi as central official language in 1950, under Article 343 of the Constitution.
Vice-Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University, Prof. Saket Kushwaha, professors Vibhuti Mishra, Surya Prasad Dixit and Shyam Krishna Pandey of Hindi Sahitya Sammelan, Prayag, also spoke on the occasion.
First Lady of the State Neelam Misra, organising secretary of the conference Kuntak Mishra, programme coordinator, RGU, Prof. Harish Kumar Sharma, and head, department of Hindi, RGU. Prof. Oken Lego were also present on the occasion.Raj Bhawan PRO
